Complexity Of Complexion

this article's topic is very likely obvious from the header image.

Racism, old and new.

many of you reading who lived in America will likely know who George Floyd was. as well as many online. the Black Lives Matter movement that was ignited by his murder, at the hands of racist police, the Stop Asian Hate movement ignited by Coronavirus, and narrow-minded people who don't understand why the pandemic happened, as well as many other events, such as The Roma Genocide from World War Two at the hands of the Nazis, in a false belief that they were superior, as well as the Jewish Genocide by that same group, for the same reasons, along with other minorities in Europe, are all prime, and potent examples of racism, and responses against it.

-----

racism is a plague as old as time, one that has raised up and given power to many oppressors, and condemned and victimised countless people, the world over, and throughout time. it is an age old, hateful programming that has perpetually infested the human race, a hate upon the most basic of differences: complexion.

-----

now why are people racist? is it hate? as with any prejudice, this is always a component of its core. is it fear? oftentimes, yes. is it a feeling of inferiority, causing one to lash out? again, oftentimes yes. is it a built up resentment from bad experiences? sometimes, yes. is it programmed from your parents, mentors, and other people who influence you? oftentimes, yes.

so which of these is always true?

it depends.

the personal source of racism varies from person to person, and there are countless forms of racism, some more common than others, all of which are the same class of prejudice. that said, racism is a tricky topic, one that has been discussed over and over, by many many different people, and yet, no one has an answer because at the end of the day, racism is such a complex topic, that nailing one form down just lets another fly loose, like a demented game of societal whack a mole. however one truth rings true through all forms of racism: it is a form of hateful prejudice, and should not be tolerated. there is no excuse for it, there is no justification for it, and there is no reason to feel that way, unless you are burdenfully unintelligent, and narrow minded, and filled with so much hate it's a curse.

-----

so how do we fix it?

-----

no one person knows.

-----

that question has been asked countless times through the ages, and yet we have not found a way to fix it because it's so old a problem, and societal collaboration is nigh impossible to accomplish in this world, even harder when trying to collaborate to fix issues that rip society apart. I'd wager racism and other prejudices will be components in the eventual downfall of society as a whole, and only by overcoming these prejudices will society truly begin to bloom. until then, society can only claw towards a solution, slipping sometimes, yet always hoping to climb to new heights, even if those who are oppressors throw rocks down the cliff to attempt to crush those attempting to effect change through strong, and collaborative activism.

now do I have ideas on how to fix this, and more to say? sure, but this manifesto is not for my personal ramblings, it is for an analysis of things most people dare not analyze. even then, I exist in a white bodied system, and therefore I feel I have no place to speak about solutions as I share the complexion of people who have all too often been the oppressors in the history of this issue, and do not have enough life experiences with those of other races to feel I have a right to say what will fix this issue, and this article, what I have said, is all I feel permitted to say given my personal complexion, and life experiences. while it may be a short article and points many should already know, I strongly encourage you to look into this issue, do research, and come to your own conclusions.

also, as for why I chose that specific header image, it is because we live in America, and it was the most pertinent and memorable issue from our perspective that is recent, and felt appropriate for the header image.

one day, I will likely revisit this article once I am a little wiser, and have earned the right to extend it. until then, this is all that there is for me to say.
